My real estate license - March 2, 2011

CADREBAs a REALTOR® licensed in this amazing province we call British Columbia I am expected to have taken 18 credits worth of education every 2 years.  Seems simple enough.  I mean 18 credits only amounts to 3 - 6 credit classes or 2 - 6 credit classes plus 2 - 3 credit classes or I guess 4 - 3 credit classes plus 1 - 6 credit class.  Anyway within each 18 credit, 2 year course cycle I need to make sure I have the 1 mandatory class (which by the way is a 6 credit class, thus choosing 6 - 3 credit classes is never an option).  Now, where this becomes important is when you are renewing your license (which by the way is every 2 years).  You cannot renew your license without providing proof of completing all the required courses.  All this information bring me to my point for this blog post.  I mistakenly thought I had taken enough credits to renew my license (which is due on the 7th of March), but in my error, I have completed 3 courses of which only 2 were 6 credits.  So for those of you who are great with a calculator or abacus, I am missing 3 credits with 5 days to go.  CRAP!!!!
My managing broker brought this to my attention today, which is never really a great conversation piece.  Luckily there is an online course I can take tomorrow which will give me 6 credit (yes, 3 more than I need), but will allow me enough time to have it registered by my board on Friday and then I can send in my licensing papers on Monday...the 7th...of March!!  Yes - by the skin of my teeth.
Now for those of you who are REALTORS® in this great province of ours...learn from my mistake.  Take your classes yearly - know what you need to take - don't wait till the last minute.  Not worth the stress :)
